Latin America is one of the priority areas of cooperation of the Ministry of Culture of Spain in the field of museums. The actions focus on training programs for Latin American professionals, including courses, scholarships, and bilateral and multilateral professional meetings.

Ibermuseos (Ibero-American Cooperation Program) was born in 2009 and ten countries participate in it:: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Portugal, Dominican Republic, Spain and Uruguay. This program offers an information centre and an open space of opinion to the professionals of Latin American museums.

 

Some of its main lines of action are:

 

  • Formation and training.

  • Creation of the Portal Ibermuseos.

  • Support for bilateral and multilateral projects museological,.

  • Creation of the Ibero-American Observatory of Museum, whose aim is the creation of the Ibero-American Museums Network.

  • Creation of Good Practice Award in Latin American Museums about educational activities and a campaign that encourages the relationship between education and museums.

  • Production line support for research on technologies for conservation, restoration and management aimed at Latin America
