The Science Museum and Stitch London are teaming up for Stitched Science. A weekend of knitting and stitching events, encouraging experts and novices alike to get involved in a range of activities which include helping to create a giant stitched solar system. From neurons to knitting a giant Jupiter, your skills are needed to help create this piece of art, so come down and join in!

Can't stitch or knit? Don't worry!

The Stitch London experts will be running a number of workshops over both days to help you master the science of stitching. Join us at the Science Museum on the 25 and 26 June and take part in Stitched Science - this event is free and there's no need to book - just drop in!

Workshops:

Plastic Bag Planet Earth (Sign up to attend. Age 8+)
11.00–12.00, 13.00–14.00, 14.00–15.00, 16.00–17.00
Learn how to turn a plastic carrier bag into yarn and knit a square from it to add to our Plastic Planet Earth. Four 1-hour workshops each day. Each workshop will teach 15 people.

Knitting Jenny Giant Jupiter (Drop in session. All ages)
All day
Learn how to make 'French knitting' or cord made from a 'Knitting Jenny'. A very easy technique anyone can learn. The finished cord will add to our giant Jupiter planet.

Mars Monsters (Sign up to attend. Age 8+)
11.00–12.00, 12.00–13.00, 14.00–15.00, 15.00–16.00
Learn to knit and make simple 'Martians' from knitted squares. 4 one-hour workshops each day. Each workshop will teach 15 people.

Pom Pom Planet Rings / stars (Drop in session. All ages)
All day
Learn to make easy-peasy pom poms. The pom poms will be used to make the ice rings of Jupiter or stars to hang around the space.

Woolly Thoughts (Workshops and drop in sessions. Age 8+)
11.00–13.00 Patterns from simple geometric shapes
14.00–16.00 Illusion knitting
Explore the science behind altered perspectives and learn how to create geometric shapes from wool.

Knit a Neuron (Workshops and drop in sessions. Age 8+)
All day
Learn about the brain and neural pathways by knitting or crocheting your own neuron.

Cross Stitch Classes with Mr X Stitch (Drop in session. All ages)
11.00, 12.00, 14.00, 15.00, 16.00
Choose an emoticon and re-create it using cross stitch techniques.

The Materialistics (Drop in session. All ages)
All day
Help to recreate some of the Science Museum's technological triumphs in a variety of stitch techniques and materials.

The Make Lounge (Drop in session. All ages).
All day
London’s premier contemporary crafts centre will present a drop-in ‘making station’, where you can fashion stitched space aliens of your own design. Create your own soft shape with fabric, learn basic stitches, and use yarn and other assorted trimmings to complete your dream alien.

Toyoda loom demonstrations. (Drop-in sessions, all ages)
Making the Modern World gallery, ground floor

See demonstrations of the first ‘non-stop shuttle change automatic loom’. Please note that the loom is very loud.

Trash Fashion guided tour (Drop-in session, all ages)
Antenna gallery, Wellcome Wing, ground floor
12.00–12.30 (Saturday only)
Come along on a guided tour of the Trash Fashion exhibition.
